Thanks to generous public support, the Heart Foundation is making a positive difference to the country’s high rate of heart disease. Since our inception over
40 years ago, heart disease rates have fallen approximately 70 percent.
But despite the inroads, the numbers are still staggering:

• Heart disease is the single biggest killer of men and women in
  New Zealand, claiming one New Zealander every 90 minutes
• Heart disease is the single biggest killer of Dads in their 40s
• Heart disease kills four times as many women as breast cancer
• Heart disease is tearing our families apart prematurely.

To change the statistics and help New Zealanders fulfil their lifetimes, the
Heart Foundation must continue to inform, assist and educate. Funds raised through the Lottery Programme enable us to continue training cardiologists, funding research, promoting healthy lifestyles, improving clinical care and advancing cardiac rehabilitation.
