Many consumers understand the importance of healthy food choices, but find food labelling confusing. Consumers rely on the Heart Foundation's Tick to help them to make healthier food choices quickly and easily.

Selecting foods with the Heart Foundation's Tick ensures the food has been independently tested to be lower in salt, lower in added sugar, lower in fat, especially saturated fat, and higher in fibre than other foods of a similar type.

Tick Awareness

Consumers recognise and trust the Heart Foundation's Tick. 

Consumer research conducted in New Zealand² during 2002 found that:

  • 94% of consumers think favourably of the Heart Foundation's Pick the Tick programme
  • 90% of consumers intend to use the Tick in the coming year to help them make healthier food choices 
  • 87% of consumers trust foods with the Heart Foundation's Tick to be a healthier choice
  • 69% of New Zealand consumers have used the Tick when grocery shopping.
