Donor/supporter fundraising and revenue-generating activities

Recently there have been a number of stories in the media about perceived dubious fundraising methods and costs in some charities.

The Heart Foundation's donor fundraising activities include a mix of supporter appeals, online donations, trusts, bequests and personal donor relationships. We do not work with commission-based telephone fundraising contractors. After fundraising costs, approximately 85% of donations go towards the Heart Foundation's work.

We also run a regular charity lottery to raise additional funds. Tickets for the lottery are purchases rather than donations e.g. they do not qualify for a tax rebate. This is because each ticket bought gives the chance to win a prize from the prize pool of over $500,000 worth of various prizes per Lottery. Each lottery (6 per year) is monitored by the Department of Internal Affairs through licensing and auditing requirements, to ensure that NZ lottery legislative requirements are followed and that the acceptable standard of lottery-based funding is generated for our charity.   After Lottery costs including prizes, approximately 33% of GST exclusive ticket sales revenue from each lottery goes towards the Heart Foundation's work.

The Heart Foundation is a reputable charity with ethical fundraising and revenue-generating activities managed to the highest standards of accountability.

Thank-you to all our supporters - together we can beat heart disease!
