Guidelines

  • Maori have the highest hospital admission ratess for heart failure. Discharge rates for heart failure in 1999/2000 were nearly three times those of non-Maori (32 per 10,000 compared to 12.6 per 10,000) and are four times or more for Maori under the age of 65 years.
  • Pacific Islanders have a lower discharge rate for heart failure than Maori, but have more than twice the discharge rate of Europeans and others (26.3 per 10,000 compared to 12.6 per 10,000).
  • Admissions for heart failure have risen by 10.6% over the last five years.
