Volunteering
Help us make a difference
The Heart Foundation is a not for profit organisation, dependant on donations, bequests and trusts to support our work. We also rely on the generosity of volunteers in giving their time and skills to assist in achieving our goals.
Volunteers come from all walks of life and are engaged in a variety of activities that help the Heart Foundation's fight against cardiovascular disease in New Zealand. You can give as much or as little time as you choose.
There are many reasons to volunteer for the Heart Foundation.
- It's fun
- Make new friends
- Develop existing skills or learn new ones
- Gain valuable work experience
- Contribute to your community
- Work as part of an enthusiastic team
- Do something positive with your free time
- Possibly gain valuable references for future employment.

I’ve been a volunteer at Tauranga branch for about 10 years. The Heart Foundation was an obvious choice when I had some spare time, as both my husband’s and my families have a history of heart disease. With a banking background of course I became the Treasurer. I’m also a committee member which involves attending monthly meetings. The Tauranga committee is active and motivated so there’s always something going on - helping with the street appeal, the half marathon, and the recent Women In Red shopping evening at Bayfair.
I’m learning a lot - surrounded by these healthy people, you can’t help but pick up tips to keep fit!

I have been volunteering at the Heart Foundation since April 2009 and am thoroughly enjoying it! I graduated from Victoria University with a Bachelors of Commerce and Administration Majoring in Marketing and Commercial Law. My interest in health promotion stemmed from a Social Marketing paper I did in my last year at university. With this in mind, I approached the Heart Foundation and have been involved in developing health promotion materials for schools & work places, creating a blog for Smoking Cessation Practitioners and events management work. Volunteering at the Heart Foundation has helped me build my confidence and develop my skills. I love working with the staff and volunteers who are passionate about improving the Heart Health of New Zealanders. |
