Shipshape Hearts: KiwiRail Healthy Heart Workplace Pilot Programme 2009
Welcome to the Shipshape Hearts web page. This page provides information about an innovative pilot programme developed by the Heart Foundation and KiwiRail for Interislander employees. The pilot programme is being run until early 2010, when it is planned to be extended across KiwiRail businesses and made available to other businesses (more information will be available in March 2010).
What is the Shipshape Hearts programme?
The Shipshape Hearts pilot programme aims to improve the health and wellbeing of Interislander employees by KiwiRail assisting Interislander employees to take personal responsibility of their health. The programme is voluntary and runs from Monday 21 September 2009 until the end of 2009.
The programme includes:
- Free and confidential heart health checks for Interislander employees (cardiovascular risk assessment) from Occupational Health Nurses between Monday 21 September and Friday 9 October 2009.
- Support for smokers to quit smoking.
- Improvement to on-board catering for Interislander employees and suggestions for healthy eating.
- Support for Interislander employees and their families to increase their physical activity levels.
- An opportunity for Interislander employees to participate in the Power of 3 Programme (Vitality Works).
