Diabetes

Even if you already have diabetes there are steps you can take to prevent your symptoms getting worse.

Find out more about diabetes and how you can make some lifestyle changes.

Diabetes

Diabetes occurs because the body can’t use the glucose (sugar) in the body as it should do, either because of a lack of the hormone insulin, or because the insulin doesn’t work properly.

Diabetes increases your risk of developing heart disease, high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels. If you have diabetes you have it for life, however if you make some lifestyle changes you could manage your symptoms.

There are three main types of diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes.

How do I know if I’m at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes?

Some people with diabetes do have warning signs.

These can include:

  • Feeling thirsty
  • Passing urine more often
  • Feeling really tired
  • Being really hungry
  • Having blurred vision
  • Losing weight without trying
  • Getting infections that are hard to heal.

It is recommended that if you have any of these symptoms you visit your doctor for a heart health check (Heart WOF).
