Fat/Saturated Fat

Eating too much saturated fat can increase your blood cholesterol levels, which can put you at risk of coronary artery disease. The good news is that there are some simple ways to reduce the saturated fat in your diet.

Fat/Saturated Fat

How can I reduce the saturated fat content in my diet?

By replacing high saturated fat foods with a lower fat alternative, including:

  • Choose your spread wisely - use margarine or table spreads like olive, sunflower or soya instead of butter.
  • Trimming the fat - trim the fat from pieces of meat before you eat them, this includes removing the skin from chicken.
  • Review your cooking methods - instead of frying, try grilling, baking or steaming your food. Rather than adding extra fat like cream to your cooking, try low-fat yoghurt or lite evaporated milk instead.
