Programme Manager Begins New Fund Raising Initiative
Posted On: Monday, 5 September 2005
The National Heart Foundation of New Zealand is pleased to announce the appointment of Bronwyn Davis to the newly created position of Direct Dialogue Programme Manager in Tauranga.
Bronwyn is leading a new initiative in the Bay of Plenty area called Stop Hearts Breaking to raise much needed funds for the Heart Foundation.
She explained why Tauranga was chosen for this new pilot programme.
"People here tend to be health conscious. Although this is an older population, they enjoy walking on the beaches and around the parks and are quite outdoorsy. People are also community minded and understand and support their community."
Four staff members of the Tauranga branch will be visiting homes to introduce themselves and get to know the community. Stop Hearts Breaking asks people to commit to a monthly 'gift' to help the Foundation fight heart disease.
This is a brand new initiative for the Heart Foundation. Previously the BOP community were asked for support only once throughout the year - during the annual Heart Week.
"With the Stop Hearts Breaking programme, an automatic donation is set up to be made once a month. It is a secure, effortless and easy way to help us continue our vital work fighting cardiovascular disease."
Bronwyn comes to the Heart Foundation from Amnesty International where she managed the Direct Dialogue programme. Within one year she expanded the programme from two to six teams of campaigners throughout various locations around New Zealand. She successfully liaised between the local branch members and the Direct Dialogue team to run the programme efficiently. Bronwyn has also coached for the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) Direct Dialogue team in Brisbane.
Bronwyn was a management consultant in Australia and specialised in supervision skills and communications.
"I will be bringing a commercial focus to the Direct Dialogue programme. We will be raising funds with the business objective of expanding the Heart Foundation's operational ability to improve the lives of people in the community."
Bronwyn is based at the Heart Foundation's Tauranga office but will travel regularly to work with the local community. She is contactable on Tel 0274-689-069 or e-mail BronwynD@nhf.org.nz .
The Heart Foundation is the charity that leads the fight against cardiovascular disease (heart, stroke and blood vessel disease) through funding research, advancing cardiac rehabilitation and promoting healthy lifestyles.
