Pacific people experience higher rates of heart disease in comparison to non-Pacific New Zealanders. This is associated with higher rates of smoking and obesity, and lower levels of physical activity and consumption of fruit and vegetables.
Pacific Heartbeat supports the Heart Foundation’s goal to stop premature deaths from heart disease of Pacific people mainly through its Nutrition, Physical Activity and Tobacco Control services. Pacific Heartbeat health promotion and training services are offered and delivered in regions and settings with high Pacific populations (e.g.) churches, family homes, learning institutions, workplaces and regions with high Pacific populations.
