Graduates are awarded the Certificate in Pacific Nutrition.

Certificate in Pacific Nutrition

Who is the course for?

Those working with Pacific communities in a training, advice and/or support role are encouraged to apply.

What will I learn?

The course is delivered with a hands-on approach to learning that encourages participants to apply knowledge within a group environment at a community level. We use fun and relevant examples to build effective facilitation and teach general principles of nutrition and physical activity and how they relate to health.

Module One is an introduction to healthy eating for Pacific people living in NZ. It provides practical information on the purchase and preparation of healthy food choices with an emphasis on typical Pacific foods.

Module Two provides a broad understanding of nutrition issues relating to healthy lifestyles and the prevention of diseases for Pacific people.

Module Three provides a broad understanding of nutrition issues relating to healthy eating for pregnant and breast feeding Pacific women, babies, children under five years old and adolescents.

How long is the course?

A total of nine days split into three modules. Each module is three days long. Each day is 8:30am to 4.30pm. Participants are required to commit to all nine days.

How much does it cost?

The course is subsidised by the Ministry of Health. Students pay a nominal fee which is currently $100. This fee covers the costs relating to course materials and resources, cooking demonstrations, morning and afternoon tea.
* subject to change.

What are the requirements to enrol?

Proof of eligibility to study in New Zealand is required (i.e. residency, citizenship). Students are encouraged to actively participate in learning activities, discussions and group work. Students must attend all classes.

How do I enrol?

You will need to complete an Enrolment Pack which includes a registration form, AUT enrolment form and letter of support form. All documents need to be completed and returned with you verified proof of residency (i.e. NZ Passport, Foreign Passport with Residency Visa, Certificate of Citizenship, NZ Birth Certificate).
