Heart Help Manager

Provide leadership and management of the Heart Help team and initiatives across the Heart Healthcare team at the Heart Foundation.

About the team

The Heart Help team works closely with the Heart Help Community engagement team and the Clinical team to ensure that initiatives are responsive people, family and whanau impacted by heart disease. The Heart Help team also works closely with other internal stakeholders to ensure content and delivery fits the overall strategy of the Heart Foundation.

About the role

This role provides leadership and management of the Heart Help team and initiatives across the Heart Healthcare team at the Heart Foundation. The Heart Help team has a particular focus on and aspires to develop and deliver a comprehensive “wrap – around” service and tailored support to families and whānau impacted by heart disease. This includes the development of digital and printed content, programmes and ongoing projects specific to a “whole of life” approach to Heart Help for all New Zealanders including;

  • Heart Help awareness and prevention education and resources
  • Developing continued peer support and activities for those living with heart disease and their family/whanau

Your skills and attributes


  • A tertiary qualification in health
  • Demonstrated ability to manage staff
  • Excellent interpersonal, relationship management and collaboration skills that can be applied to working across a range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience in making information readily accessible and understandable to support behaviour change across multiple media (paper, online, email, e-news etc)
  • Understanding of health literacy and development of digital and print content to support people to make changes to their lives using co-design and other patient/person centred approaches
  • An understanding of inequalities in healthcare and how to address equity
  • Demonstrated experience in being proactive, innovative and delivering results
  • Programme management skills and able to juggle multiple priorities


  • Experience/qualification/training in long term conditions, health literacy or training/behaviour change
  • Experience in the creative process of developing resources, services and online tools
  • Experience in service development and co-design processes (e.g. developing new services, business cases and implementation)
  • Qualification/experience in peer support, public health/population health or health care
  • Experience in quality improvement techniques
