ASB Auckland Marathon
Heart Racers raised thousands of dollars for the Heart Foundation at the ASB Auckland Marathon 2018.
It may be over for this year, but we’re still inspired by our amazing team of runners and walkers. More than 100 Heart Racers signed up to challenge themselves in a variety of distances at this year’s Auckland Marathon.
The Heart Foundation marquee was a hive of activity after the event. Our hungry competitors enjoyed a well-deserved healthy BBQ, cold drinks and a much-needed massage. Once fed and re-hydrated, our Heart Racers were happy to pose for photos with our mascot Hearty and share their stories.
We heard inspiring stories from our runners, with many having personal reasons for getting involved. Like Charmaine Michell and her team of ‘Mystro’s mates’ who ran as a heartfelt tribute to her late husband, John, after he died suddenly last year from his second heart attack, which led to cardiac arrest.
While Natasha and her son Isaac, both have the heart condition Long QT Syndrome Type-2 and took on the 5km family challenge.

Vital funds for heart research
The ASB Auckland Marathon is a great opportunity for runners to challenge themselves and raise money for great causes. Heart Racers, and their supporters, raised more than $47,000 dollars for the Heart Foundation. We’re inspired by what they’ve achieved, and very grateful and their time and commitment.
The money raised will go towards cutting-edge heart research and specialist training for cardiologists so they can bring their new skills back into the community.
If you’d like to fundraise for the Heart Foundation, there are lots of ways you can get involved.
