Hasselback apples

A perfect dessert that makes the most of apples with only a handful of ingredients.

Hasselback baked apples topped with toasted muesli and almonds, served with Greek yoghurt.

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C.  
  2. Core and cut the apples in half. 
  3. Cut through the apple halves in thin slices, stopping just before slicing all the way through. To make this easier, place a wooden skewer through the apple so the knife can’t go all the way through to the board. 
  4. Place apple halves face down in a roasting dish, pour over the orange juice and sprinkle over the orange zest and cinnamon. Cover with tin foil and bake for 30 minutes. 
  5. Remove from oven and remove tin foil.  
  6. Combine the almond, toasted muesli and cornflakes, sprinkle over the apples pushing some into the cuts.  
  7. Return to oven for a further 10 minutes. 
  8. Remove from the oven and serve with yoghurt.  

Tips

  • Instead of almonds use chopped walnuts or replace half the nuts with seeds of your choice. 
  • Try substituting the apples with pears.
