Payroll giving

Payroll giving is an easy way to regularly donate to the Heart Foundation's life-saving work through your organisation's payroll system.

Many deaths from heart disease are premature and preventable. That's why ongoing research into the causes, treatment and prevention of heart disease is so important.

Join with the Heart Foundation, and other like-minded Kiwis, and show your generosity and commitment to funding vital heart research and specialist cardiologist training.

Payroll giving makes donating to the Heart Foundation easy. The Heart Foundation is an approved donee organisation through the Inland Revenue Department.

For employees

Payroll giving is a simple process that’s organised through your workplace's payroll team. You chose how much and how often you want to donate. Your chosen donation amount is then deducted from your pay and transferred to the Heart Foundation.

You don't need to wait until the end of the tax year to claim the tax credit. You'll receive an immediate tax credit for the payroll giving donation, reducing the PAYE amounts payable. Tax credits are calculated at 33.33 cents for each dollar donated.

Choose the Heart Foundation as your charity of choice and don’t forget to encourage your colleagues to do the same.

You could also ask your workplace if they would match any staff donations dollar-for-dollar.

Visit the IRD's Payroll giving as an employee page to find out more.

Ask your payroll team if your business has a payroll giving scheme or contact us to see how we can help set this up in your workplace.

For businesses

Payroll giving is a simple and effective way for your employees to make regular donations to support heart research - straight from their salary, before tax is deducted.

It’s easy for employers to set up and it has both tax and administrative benefits. By donating directly through the payroll system, your employees get the tax benefit straight away, rather than applying to the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) at the end of the year.

Your business may like to offer encouragement to your staff and show its support for heart research by matching donations dollar- for-dollar.

Visit the IRD's payroll giving page or download the Payroll Giving Guide (IR617) (PDF) to find out how your workplace can set-up a payroll giving scheme.
