A new look for our Pacific Heartbeat team

The Heart Foundation’s Pacific Heartbeat team has a refreshed visual identity designed to honour Pacific culture and the Heart Foundation’s charitable purpose.

Pacific Heartbeat logo with pattern and border

The Pacific Heartbeat team has collaborated with Pasifika and Māori design agency, Dioscuri, to refresh the Pacific Heartbeat logo and incorporate Pasifika visual design.

The refreshed design more clearly unifies the Pacific Heartbeat and Heart Foundation logos and strengthens connection with Pacific culture and communities.

Pacific Heartbeat Manager, Alexandria Nicholas, says, "It was time to refresh our brand and develop an approach that will really resonate with our communities."

Working together, the Pacific Heartbeat team and Dioscuri identified three key themes that would run through the designs:

  • movement
  • nutrition
  • health.

These themes were used to create design elements which could then be incorporated into a new logo and series of patterns.

Design elements

The elements consist of Pacific-inspired symbols, influenced by Micronesian, Melanesian and Polynesian imagery.

“This allowed Dioscuri to create to a number of excellent design options that delve into the symbolism and values that are central to Pacific cultures, while aligning with the Heart Foundation’s identity,” explains Alexandria.

New logo

The refreshed Pacific Heartbeat logo reflects the strength and culture of the Pacific community, and the team’s role within the Heart Foundation.

Through subtle but powerful cultural motifs and an aligned colour palette, the logo communicates Pacific Heartbeat’sintegral connection to our mission of improving heart health outcomes for everyone.

The logo also uses the three key design elements to communicate the importance of movement, nutrition and health.

New pattern

Accompanying the logo is a refreshed background pattern that embodies the cultural heritage and health of Pacific people.

The pattern uses two themes:

  • blood flow – which speaks to the health of Pacific peoples and the importance of leading heart-healthy lives.
  • waves – which represent Te Moana-nui-a-Kiwa (the Pacific Ocean ), the connector between every Pacific person and nation.

The three key design elements of movement, nutrition and health were then integrated into the pattern to create a dynamic visual that resonates with Pacific values.

Finally, this visual was blended with the Heart Foundation’s brand colours.

Alexandria says: "The refreshed logo and new pattern reflect the strength of our Pacific community and our team’s commitment to improving heart health. It honours both our heritage and mission, reminding us that heart health is a shared journey, rooted in culture and community.

“To ensure a smooth transition and to minimise waste, we’re starting with digital updates, with physical materials following in due course. We’ll be updating printed collateral and resources gradually, using up existing stock before introducing new versions.”
